Game Faces
After seeing this post by the great Joe Buglewicz, I was shooting an exhibition for SMU Guildhall, the university's game development school, and was inspired to shamelessly rip him off. That said, this fit in well with a project I have casually been carrying on for the past few years, as can be seen below...
UD Residential Life
It's probably obvious to most photographers, but just to be clear, these are set-up, posed, lit, portrait-style images - not photojournalism. The University of Dallas asked me to shoot this for their viewbook. It was an interesting challenge trying pose and light non-portrait portraits. I definitely prefer true photojournalism, but the challenge was good for me.

Life Is Different Now
From this point forward, Kelly and I will be keeping another blog where we will post photos/videos/etc. of our family life. An Ellie photo may occasionally, accidentally find its way onto this blog, but for the most part, those who want to get their Ellie fix can do so at www.jandkmcwhorter.blogspot.com.
Ellie Grace McWhorter
After 10 hours of beautiful non-medicated labor, my wife Kelly gave birth to our first child, Ellie Grace McWhorter, on May 21, 2012 (her due date!) at Baylor Hospital near downtown Dallas. Here are a few photos depicting Kelly's labor and Ellie's first moments on earth.

Big D
Kelly and I went on a little "babymoon/birthday stay-cation" for one night at the Omni hotel. After I told them the occasion, they upgraded us to a nicer room with an amazing view!
An Interesting Portrait Assignment
Haven Hendrik, a 16-year-old junior at Denton Guyer High School, was banned from a pre-med training program at Denton Regional Medical Center after committing an act of compassion that was perceived by the hospital as a privacy violation. After being told that a homeless woman who needed surgery but did not have insurance was going to be discharged to the street, Haven asked her mother if they could do something to help. When Haven's mother called the hospital, she was informed that her daughter had committed a HIPAA violation and would not be allowed back at the hospital. Dallas Morning News columnist Steve Blow picked up the story and wrote an article. This assignment was another reminder why I love being a photojournalist. I get to meet interesting people in interesting places (I had never heard of Corinth, Texas) with interesting stories who I would probably have never met otherwise.
New Big XII Commissioner
Bob Bowlsby, former athletic director at Stanford University, is introduced as the new commissioner of the Big 12 Conference Friday, May 4, 2012 at the Big 12 headquarters in Irving, Texas. Shot on assignment for the Dallas Morning News.

Children's Cancer Fund Benefit
I got to be the runway photographer for the Children's Cancer Fund Luncheon & Fashion Show benefit. It was a lot of fun and made for some really great moments.
