It is true that that technology has allowed us to mine minerals from almost anywhere, not just in the areas where the minerals are exceptionally abundant. A prime example of that is the oil pump. Nowadays, if you have an oil reservoir underneath the surface of your land, you can easily have an oil pump built to siphon the oil from your land, which you can either use for your own needs or sell in the market.
